Just Let Go

I just finished reading a book called Just A Minute by Wes Stafford, president of Compassion International. His ministry is devoted to helping children. In the book, he tells story after story about how big a difference we can make in just a minute or two. We have the power to build someone up or tear them down in just a few words. We may give hope or hopelessness with one simple sentence. Our words can encourage or devastate in only a moment. We hold life and death in the power of our words. One compliment can change a life forever, but so also can one criticism. We never know what the ripple effect of our words may be. In fact, often, we may never even know that we said something help affect the person as we did. In fact, this evening, I spent a couple of hours with a young woman who has lived with guilt for years over something she has no reason to feel guilty about. A person that should’ve loved her, protected her, and encouraged her did everything but that. He blamed her for things that were beyond her control and with the words,”it’s your fault,” he continues to haunt her even though he’s no longer a part of her life. She has suffered unnecessarily for too long because of his words. My heart breaks for her! We all have had words spoken to us that have hurt. They have haunted us more than we ever let others know! But, as long as these words have a hold on us, they have power over us. There is One who can take those words and hurts away! He alone can break the chains that bind us to those words! Only He can replace the lies with truth. He can heal our broken hearts and make us whole. But before He can do any of that, we have to give it to Him! He’s waiting to take it…just let go!

“…casting all your cares upon Him for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
