Have you ever allowed yourself to really look at the depth of your sin? It can be a very humbling, but also a very disturbing revelation.  I think most of us are shocked at the sin in our life when we honestly come face-to-face with it.  It can be very discouraging, especially when you’ve walked with the Lord for a while.  Often, we think that the closer we get to God, the less we should sin. The truth is, the closer we get to God, the more aware of our sin we become.  When we grow in our knowledge of who He is, it becomes more and more apparent that we are nowhere close to being where we need to be in relation to Him.  We begin to recognize sins in our lives that we didn’t even acknowledge as sins at one point.  Sometimes, the truth can hit us so hard that we wonder how God has not kept from blasting us right into hell where we deserve to be. Apart from His love, none of us would have any hope of being anywhere else!  Only because of His amazing love is He able to lavishly extend mercy and grace on us daily.  Because of His compassion, we are not consumed by His wrath.

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed because His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
