“And He said to them, ‘Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.” Matthew 22:21

Most of us are familiar with the verse above from Matthew.  We know that God has instructed us to pay the taxes that are due from us to the government.  The part I think we fail to grasp is the second part – the part about rendering to God the things that are God’s.  Think about it for a moment…do you really give God everything that He is owed?  We owe Him a lifetime of gratitude for all He has done for us, yet we tend to grumble and complain far more than we give thanks.  We owe Him our undying devotion, yet we tend to be more devoted to our favorite sports team or TV program than we are to Him.  We owe Him all of our praise and worship, yet we tend to worry about seeking our own accolades far more than we worry about His.  We owe Him first priority in our lives, yet we tend to put Him on the backburner unless absolutely necessary.  We owe Him our best, yet we tend to give Him our leftovers.  God is so much more worthy than we ever give Him credit for.  He deserves so much more than we ever render to Him.  Give Him what is rightfully His.  Don’t give to anyone or anything else what belongs to God.  After all He’s done for us, it’s the least we can do for Him.
