In the Blink of An Eye

Posted on: 7-15-112017

“…it is appointed to men to die once, and then the judgment.” Hebrews 9:27

I’ve thought a lot this week about how life can be gone in the blink of an eye. On Monday, a 29 year old young man I’ve worked with for several years passed away unexpectedly. Tonight, I received word that my daughter’s boyfriend’s aunt passed away. Death…no matter who you are, you are going to face death. None of us are promised tomorrow. Any of us could close our eyes to go to sleep tonight and not wake up tomorrow morning. Death doesn’t care about how much money is in your bank account, how many candles were on your last birthday cake, how healthy you are, or how powerful you are by the world’ standards. Each day, we are all one day closer to coming face to face with it. We may wonder if we will be ready for death when it knocks on our door, but what we really need to focus on is whether or not we are ready to face eternity on the other side of death. The Bible is clear…physical death comes once and then the judgment. There will be no second chances, no do-overs, and no additional time to do things differently. The Bible is also very clear about eternity – you will either die in Christ and spend eternity with Him in heaven or you will die without Him and spend eternity apart from Him in hell. Those are your only options. You either choose one or the other. And whatever you choose, you choose permanently! And just like death is final, so is where you spend eternity! There is no one to bargain with, no one to beg for another chance, and no one to change the situation. Your time to choose is now…choose wisely!
