Follow Me

“As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, ‘Follow Me.’ So he arose and followed Him.”   Matthew 9:9

The day had started out for Matthew just as a normal day…nothing out of the ordinary…a day like the ones before. He probably woke up, ate breakfast, went to work, and carried out his routine just as he had many times. I can’t say for sure, but I’m almost positive that Matthew had no idea that he was about to encounter the Son of God and be called to follow Him. An ordinary day that suddenly became the most life altering day of Matthew’s entire life. Matthew didn’t expect Jesus to come in and change his life forever that day, and the odds are, neither did anyone else who ever followed Jesus. We may not know when Jesus isngoing to show up and call us to follow Him, but chances are, we won’t be ready for it. Very seldom does Jesus call us when we have all of our ducks in a row. Instead, He tends to call us when our life looks as if its been ravaged by a tornado. He doesn’t tend to call us when we are actively pursuing Him, but when we are running from Him. It’s not often He comes for us when we are ready to jump on board and go wherever He leads. Instead, He comes when we have no desire to get out of our comfort zone and we are going to dig our heels into the ground and fight Him every step of the way. He doesn’t come when we have anything to give, but instead when we have absolutely nothing to offer. There is no human rhyme or reason to why God calls us when He does, and we will probably never understand His timing earthside; however, we can trust that if we answer His call, it will be the very best thing we ever do. Follow Him wherever He leads and your life will be forever changed!
