Plummeting to Death

Posted on: 7-15-112016

Yesterday I heard the story of Luke Aikins who just set the record for the highest jump from an airplane without a parachute.  Aikins jumped 25,000, using only the air current and his body to land him safely on a net that measured about 1/3 the size of a football field.  I cannot imagine attempting such a feat! Even though Aikins is an expert skydiver, accumulating 18,000 plus jumps in 26 years, the slightest mistake could’ve meant his death. To me, and probably several of you, this seems insane.  Who in their right mind would jump out of a plane and plummet to the earth with nothing whatsoever to protect them except a net they could not even see?  As I thought about this story, it occurred to me that there are many people who do something even scarier every day and don’t even bat an eye at it.  For those who don’t know Christ as their Savior, they are no different than Aikins in some sense.  They are plummeting through life with no protection and unfortunately, their end result won’t have a happy ending as Aikins’ did.  There is no net waiting at the end of life to save them.  Apart from finding Christ, they will face their demise alone and spend eternity separated from the only One who could’ve saved them.

“They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His might.” 2 Thessalonians 1:9
