Even if He Doesn’t Rescue Us

:”If the God we serve exists, then He can rescue us from the furnace of the blazing fire…but even if He does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods.” Daniel 3:17 -18

“…but even if He does not rescue us…” – I think those eight words say volumes about the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego as they faced possible death in the fiery furnace.  Their faith didn’t rest in the outcome of their situation, but instead, their faith rested in God and in God alone.  They were determined to serve God only, even if it meant their death.  What about our faith?  Is our faith dependent upon circumstances or is our faith built upon the character of God?  Does our faith waver depending upon God’s answer to our prayers or is it rock solid no matter what answer He gives us?  Think about the “fiery furnaces” in your life – is your faith unwavering even if He doesn’t rescue you from the failing marriage, the prodigal child, the barren womb, the empty checkbook, the cancer, the lost job, the single life, or whatever your “fiery furnace” may be? Are you able to say, as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did that you will stand in faith by God “even if He does not rescue you” or will your faith fall apart?  Faith built on circumstances will fail every time, but faith that is build on God will stand  no matter what.
