Dig Deep

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life – the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us…” 1 John 1:1 – 2

Maybe it’s just me, but I had to read the above two verses several times and really let them sink in before I began to truly get an idea of what they were saying.  And I’m quite certain that there is so much more buried beneath the surface than what I’ve come up with.  What jumped out to me was that John was able to declare that eternal life was found in the Father because he had seen it for himself.  He was able to proclaim that eternal life was found in Christ because he had an intimate, up close, and personal relationship with Him.  He was very familiar with Christ.  He could testify regarding the things of Christ because he knew Him on a deep level.  Christ wasn’t a stranger to John…He was his friend.  When we have that type of relationship with Christ, we, like John, are able to testify to who He is and what He can do.  If we only know Christ on the surface, we can only declare the very shallow things about His character.  The deeper our relationship with Him, the more gems we are able to glean about Him.  And the more we know about Him, the more likely we are to share who He is with others.  There is a lost world waiting to hear about Him, so get your shovels and dig deep!  You will be amazed at the treasures you will uncover.
