Limp By Faith

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

Most of us are familiar with this verse.  Sounds easy enough, doesn’t it?  I mean, after all, most of us have been walking since around our first birthday.  It’s something we do every single day without even thinking about it. For the most part, we can walk for quite a  distance with relative ease. When you add “by faith” into the equation, however, walking loses its simplicity.  Tack on “by faith” and you go from a nice, leisurely stroll around the block to a 1,000 mile journey (all uphill in knee-deep snow, of course).  There is nothing easy about “walking by faith”.  It’s not for the faint of heart.  It’s for the weak.  It’s not for those who give up when the going gets tough.  Maybe Paul should’ve chosen a different word here.  Perhaps he should’ve gone with “limp by faith” or “stumble by faith” or even “crawl by faith” because sometimes the difficulties of this life can hit us so hard that we don’t even have the ability to stand anymore. It doesn’t really matter how we travel in faith…the important thing is that we keep moving forward. It may only be an inch at a time, but God will bless that inch and turn it into a foot.  He can take that foot and make it a mile.  God will get you across the finish line before you know it and oh, how sweet that victory will be!
