Just As You Are

In her book “Audacious”, Beth Moore made a point that I really loved.  She said that, in Christ, we can be ourselves…we don’t just have to behave ourselves.  I think most of us feel as if we have to be perfect in order to have a relationship with Christ.  I think that, despite how many times the Bible assures us that He is a forgiving, compassionate God who loves us exactly as we are, we believe the lie that He is disappointed in us and wishes we were someone better.  I think that too many of us feel as if we have to “put on our Sunday best” and mind our P’s and Q’s in order to spend time with Him.  Nothing could be farther from the truth!  We have to allow the truth that God loves us completely and unconditionally at our worst, just as He does at our best.  We don’t have to pretend to be someone we are not in order to win His favor.  We don’t have to dress a certain way, act a certain way, or speak a certain way in order for God to look upon us and declare His undying love.  God never once has expected us to be perfect.  He has never condemned us for our weaknesses, our failures, or our flaws.  When God looks at us, He sees a masterpiece.  He sees us as His beloved treasure and He loves us whether or not we love Him back.  Go before Him just as you are…be yourself!  That is the self He loves and adores!
