Light Must Endure Burning

“What is to give light must endure burning.” Viktor Frankl

John 8:12 says that Jesus is the light of the world. We, as His followers, have been called to be a reflection of Jesus, which means we are called to be light in this world.  When we consider the quote above, we can reason that we, as light, must endure “burning” in order to give light.  While our “burning” may not be literal burning, I think we can all relate to what this is saying.  It is often through or a result of trials, tribulations, heartbreak, and difficulties that our light shines the most. When we endure the hardships of life, we are stripped of ourselves and left with a dependence on God that we would never experience apart from those hardships.  When we endure our most difficult times, we are shaped and molded into God’s image more than when the road we are traveling is easy and convenient.  When we face the trials and tribulations, we are put in a position to shine for God in a manner that has the capacity to illuminate Him more clearly than we can even imagine.  We will not necessarily enjoy the “burning” we have to go through in order to shine brighter for Him, but isn’t it worth it?  What if one person is brought closer to Christ because of the light we radiate into their life?  As you face the times in your life that seem as if they will destroy you, hold on in faith.  Christ will use those times to help you shine for Him.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
