A Fifty-two Year Prayer

Posted on: 7-15-112015

Many of us say we believe in the power of prayer, but how deeply do we really believe?  We may believe in the power of prayer when He answers in the way we want Him to, but what about when He answers in a different way?  We may believe in the power of prayer when we feel that God is listening to us, but what about when we feel as if our prayers are going no higher than our ceiling?  We may believe in the power of prayer when God answers us right away, but what about when He doesn’t? I heard a story about a man today who really believed in the power of prayer even when most would have probably given up long before.  George Muller decided to pray for the salvation of five different individuals.  He prayed every single day without fail.  After 18 months, the first of the five was saved.  He thanked God for this one and continued to pray for the other four.  Five years passed before the second of the five accepted Christ.  Again, Muller thanked God for this one and continued to pray for the remaining three.  Six years passed before the third individual came to know Christ.  Muller thanked God for this one and continued to pray for the other two.  He faithfully prayed for these two who remained unchanged for a total of fifty-two years before he passed away.  It wasn’t until some time after Muller’s death that the final two gave their lives to Christ.  Fifty-two years!  Can you imagine praying for someone for fifty-two years?  Muller definitely believed in the power of prayer…he had to or he would have given up long before fifty-two years!  I wish I could say that I believed in the power of prayer that deeply, but I can’t!  I admit that I get discouraged when God doesn’t answer me in my time frame or in the way I expect Him to answer.  I need to learn what Muller apparently knew…God answers!  It may not be in our time frame or even in our lifetime, but He answers.

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24
