Whatever the Cost

Posted on: 7-15-112015

“You are my God whatever the cost…”

This is a line from “My Heart is Yours” by Passion which is one of my favorite songs.  Take a minute and let those words really sink in to your mind. Those are very determined words, but also very scary words to live by.  It’s easy to sing them as we sing the song, but what does it really look like to live them out?  Are we really willing to give up ANYTHING or ANYONE in order live for Christ?  What if God being our God means that we have to give up some of the places we like to go?  What if God being our God means that we have to stop hanging out with some of the people we hang out with?  What if God being our God means that we have to spend our money differently?  What if God being our God means that we have to forgo some of the activities/events that we enjoy?  What if God being our God costs even more than those things?  What if God being our God means that we may lose our relationship with the people we love more than anything in the world?  What if our husband/wife, son/daughter, mother/father, sister/brother, etc. draw a line in the sand and tell us that it’s either them or God?  What if standing for Christ and speaking His truth means that the person you love with all of your heart walks out of your life forever?  Are you willing to say, “You are my God whatever the cost” at that point?  I think most of us would be willing to die for Christ in a heartbeat…but will we live for Him when the cost is so high?  Will we give up anything or anyone that stands in our way of living for Him?  Tough questions, right?  At some point, we all have to make these kinds of decisions.  God knows all about tough decisions.  Remember, there was a time when He looked at us and said, “You are My child whatever the cost” knowing full well that Jesus’ death on the cross would be the cost that had to be paid for us.  He sacrificed it all for us…how can we do any less for Him?

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
