Going In as a Kitten, Coming Out as a Lion

Posted on: 7-15-112015

I have seen this picture several times over the last week on Facebook.  Every time I see it, I am reminded that there is so much power in prayer…power I believe that we, in our humanness, cannot even begin to understand. I think we often get the purpose of prayer all backwards…we tend to think that we pray so we can tell God what we need, what we want, what problems we’re facing, and what He needs to do about all of these situations.  God doesn’t need us to tell Him anything…He already knows every detail about every single thing we pray about and He certainly doesn’t need us to tell Him what to do.  We pray, not for Him, but for ourselves.  Praying humbles us because it makes us face the fact that we need help and that we cannot handle everything on our own.  Praying puts us in the proper mindset to worship because we realize our need for God.  Praying takes things out of our weak, limited hands and puts them into the hands of the strong, limitless hands of the Master.  It takes our fears and turns them into courage.  It takes our weaknesses and turns them into His strengths.  It takes our failures and turns them into His victories.  It takes our mourning and turns it into dancing.  It takes our chaos and turns it into peace.  It takes our despair and turns it into hope.  It takes our doubts and turns it into trust. As the picture above shows, we go in as a kitten and come out as a lion, ready to face the world with strength, courage, faith, and power that can only come from time spent with the Lord Almighty.

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3
