You Are A Masterpiece

My two-year old grandson loves to play outside.  He loves to explore, observe, and learn new things about nature.  He is fond of bugs, frogs, tadpoles (which he refers to as “fishies”), trees, leaves, flowers…basically if it’s outside, he is a fan.  A couple of weeks ago, we were investigating the trees in the field across from our house.  My son was with us and he found a large bird’s nest beneath one of the trees.  It didn’t have any eggs in it, but my grandson was fascinated with it.  He turned it in every direction and touched pretty much every little twig that made up the nest.  At one point, he held it up toward the tree and said, “Here bird! Here bird!”  I was amazed that he knew a bird belonged in the nest because it was the first one he’s every seen in real life, but I was even more amazed at the intricate design of the nest.  I noticed how the twigs were so intricately woven to make up the nest.  I couldn’t help but wonder if the bird who built the nest lined it with pine straw so the babies would have a soft cushion to lay on when they hatched.  I marveled at the basic structure and how it was sturdy enough to withstand inclement weather. It was a masterpiece compared to anything I could possibly create with some twigs and string. Just as this nest was intricately woven together by its creator, we have been intricately woven together by our Creator.  God has designed each and every one of us as a masterpiece.  We are His workmanship and He is so proud to call us His own.  We are His most treasured work and He delights in us.  Nothing about us is ordinary…we were created by the One who created it all. There’s nothing more amazing than that!

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
