Rescuing the Desperate

Posted on: 7-15-112015

This afternoon I had the privilege of helping a woman and her daughter by rescuing their baby kitten from inside their car door.  When I encountered the woman and her daughter, they were just heartbroken because the kitten had somehow managed to get itself stuck inside the car door.  They had tried to coax it out every way they knew how, but the reality of the situation was that the kitten had wedged itself in to a little nook and couldn’t do anything to help itself out.  A co-worker and I worked and worked on trying to maneuver that kitten out of that nook.  We took screwdrivers and started trying to disassemble anything and everything we could without tearing the lady’s car up.  Finally, we were able to get our hand in close enough to grab the kitten.  However, we still couldn’t get it out.  We continued to move the kitten a little at a time until it finally was able to wriggle itself free.  Before we could completely free it, the poor thing ran into another hole and ended up deep under the engine.  I’m happy to report that finally, after much struggle, I was able to reach it enough to grab it and pull it out.  The poor baby was trembling with fear and just put its head on my chest.  I was so relieved, as were my co-worker and the mother and daughter.  As I watched them drive away with their kitten safe in a box, I thought about how this little kitten had just been in as desperate situation and needed someone to rescue it.  We are much like this kitten.  We all have been or currently are in a desperate situation and in need of a Savior.   Our desperate situation is called sin and there is only One who can rescue us from it.  His name is Jesus and He is ready, willing, and able to rescue us the moment we call to Him for help.  We are like the kitten in the respect that we have no way out and no way to help ourselves.  We are trapped by our sin and we will never be able to set ourselves free. We can struggle with it and try with all of our might, but we are never going to be able to save ourselves.  All we can do is call on Christ and allow Him to reach down and set us free.

“Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”  John 8:36
