The Perfect Recipe

Posted on: 7-15-112015

“Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?” Galatians 3:3

Baking for my family is one of my favorite things to do. They seem to really enjoy it as well.  One thing they know about my baking is that somewhere between reading the recipe and the finished product, I have probably altered the ingredients or amounts of an ingredient in some form or fashion. I may add ingredients or I may opt to delete ingredients.  I may increase amounts or decrease amounts. Basically, I make it work for my family and my own taste preference. Sometimes, as Christians, we do the same thing with our salvation.  We forget that His recipe for saving us is perfect and complete without any additions or subtractions on our end.  For example, we may think that our salvation is dependent upon Jesus and how many people we lead to Christ or Jesus plus how much money we tithe or Jesus and how many church activities we can cram into one week. When we try to add or take away from God’s perfect plan of salvation, we are turning the responsibility back on to ourselves.  We act as if Jesus alone is not enough, when in reality, He is more than enough all on His own.  The blood He shed on the cross was exactly the amount needed to pay for our debt of sin.  His death was exactly what was needed to save us and set us free from the chains of our sin.  We do not need to alter His plan in any way, shape, or form in order to make it better.  There is no better…His plan is already perfect.
