He Will Not Give Us Lesser Things

Have you ever prayed for something only to have God answer you with a resounding “No!” Have you ever begged Him to grant you something only to have Him deny you? Have you ever wanted something so badly that it hurt, but God didn’t grant it to you? If you’ve been living very long, the answer to all of those questions is probably yes. When we want something with everything in us, it can be devastating for God to say “no” to us. When we pray and pray and pray for God to intervene on our behalf and He answers in a way that seems completely the opposite of on our behalf, we can be hurt and feel as if God has let us down. We can feel as if He has forsaken us and that He doesn’t even care about us. Satan can creep right in during these times and convince us that God doesn’t love us or even hear our prayers. However, that is completely not true. There is a line in the song “Blessings” by Laura Story, that always helps me through times when God answers in a way that is not what I want:

“And all the while, You hear each spoken need, Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things.”

God does hear each and every prayer we utter. He knows every single desire of our heart. And He knows exactly how much some of His answers are going to hurt us! So, if God is so good and loves us so much, why does He do things that He knows are going to break our heart? He does these things because they are what is best for us, even if they do hurt! We may never understand this side of heaven why or how these hurtful things are for our good, but God does. He loves us way to much to give us what we want when He can give us something so much better! He will never settle for second best where His children are concerned! He will always do what He has to do in order to give us the best of everything! We have to trust Him because He alone knows how all things work together for our good. He alone knows our past, present, and future. He alone knows exactly what we need when we need it. Trust Him with everything in your heart, even if your hearts breaking!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
