Time and Pressure

God changes caterpillars into butterflies, sand into pearls, and coal into diamonds using time and pressure.  He’s working on you too!

I can’t think of one person I know who is not under some type of pressure or stress.  It’s a very real part of everyone’s life…no one escapes it.  It doesn’t matter how much money you have in the bank, the color of your skin, your profession, your marital status, your level of education, etc.  It’s easy to think that God has forgotten you when the pressure is on.  The more it intensifies, the farther away He can seems.  We can feel as if we’re all alone fighting the battle of our lives, but this is just a feeling…it is not truth.  God has promised us that He would never leave us or forsake us.  Even when He seems far away, the reality is that He is right there.  He knows our struggles and our difficulties.  He knows the stress and pressure we can find ourselves under.  He knows every ounce of struggling we are enduring.  He knows every detail of it all because He knows exactly how every detail of it all is going to transform us into His image.  He knows that, using time and pressure, He can do a miraculous work in us, just as He does with the butterfly, pearl, and diamond.  If we think about it, the caterpillar, sand, and coal do not fight God every step of the way.  The do not do everything in their power to avoid the pressure they are undergoing.  They simply do what God created them to do. We, on the other hand, tend to dig our heels into the ground and fight God with everything in us.  We don’t like pressure and the discomfort it  causes.  We don’t like the change that the pressure brings forth.  We tend to think we know best in these situations, but the truth is that God always knows exactly what He needs to do in order to bring about the changes in us that are for our own good.  Pressure in this life is inevitable, so we may as well embrace it and know that God is doing a good work in us.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
