Giving It All to God

Posted on: 7-15-112014

This afternoon I had 4 of my grandchildren visiting. They range in age from 3 years down to a couple of weeks shy of 1 year old. You can imagine that this Nana was incredibly busy trying to keep up with them, while at the same time trying to keep everyone happy! One of the things we worked on today was sharing. The youngest of the four tried her best to ride on a little airplane toy that belongs to the one that just turned one a couple of weeks ago. He was not happy about her riding his airplane. I tried to distract him by putting him on his four-wheeler, but he was determined to get the airplane. Finally, she gave in and took the four-wheeler and he got the airplane. Just about the time we got that worked out, the two year old came in and decided she wanted the airplane. Needless to say, it’s been quite an eventful evening! As the Nana, I want everyone to be happy, but I also want to teach them to share and be kind to others. I want them to learn to think of other people first and not take things that someone else had first. However, I also want to teach them that there is one time it’s okay to take from someone else…and that someone else is Satan! I want them to learn something that I learned recently in a Beth Moore Bible study…that when we give something to God, we are taking it away from Satan. I want them to know that by giving something to God, they are putting it in the hands of the One who has the power to do something about it, and by taking it from Satan, they are taking away the power he has to use it against them. I want them to learn early on that they are not defenseless against Satan, but they can do things that send him running with his tail tucked between his legs…and one of those things is giving their worries, problems, troubles, concerns, etc. to God. Once these things are in God’s hands, Satan can’t touch them. He can’t use them to destroy them! He can’t gain a foothold with them! When we resist him, he will flee! And that’s exactly where we want him…on the run!

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
