Last Friday was a very special day for our family.  My nephew was able to officially adopt my 7 year-old twin nieces.  They have been part of our family since they were babies, and he has basically been the only “dad” they knew, but it was only recently that the situation worked out so that he could adopt them as his own.  When I received the news, I was ecstatic! I am glad that all of the red tape they had to go through is behind them and we no longer have to worry that anything will happen to stop the adoption from going through.  Even though the “official” adoption date may read Friday, February 21, 2014, I want to make it perfectly clear that this date is just the official date!  To me, these precious little girls have been part of our family since the day I laid eyes on them. I didn’t need a piece of paper to tell me they were mine.  And, even though I’m happy about the adoption being official, it doesn’t change my feelings for them at all.  I love them just the same as I did before the adoption. As God’s children, we, too, have been adopted into God’s family.  And even though He is thrilled to have us as part of His family, our adoption doesn’t change His feelings for us or make us any more a part of His family.  He has considered us family since the beginning of time. He loved us before He ever created the world.  He loved us before we ever took our first breath.  He loved us before we even knew He existed.  He loved us when we knew Him, but chose to turn our back on Him and go our own way.  He loved us when our sins had taken us the farthest from Him.  He loved us so much, He sent His only Son to die for us when we were His enemies.  There is no greater love in the world than the love God has for us.  Whether we know it or not, we are His family.  Whether we accept it or not, He loves us.  Whether we choose to be or not, He’s adopted us as His own.  There’s no paperwork, no court dates, no legal fees…all you have to do is ask and your adoption is final!

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8
