Walking With Him or Against Him

Posted on: 7-15-112014

Today was a beautiful day outside.  After several days of very cold temperatures, it was nice to be able to get outside and enjoy some sunshine.  This afternoon, my daughter and I decided to take my grandson for a walk since he hadn’t been able to go outside too much recently, which is absolutely one of his favorite things to do.  We had only been walking for a bit when the wind started to really pick up.  It felt as if the temperature had dropped quite a bit as well and the sun disappeared behind the clouds.  We kept walking, but the wind continued to blow harder and harder. It wasn’t too bad when we were walking in the direction the wind was blowing because the wind actually helped push us along the way, but when we turned around to go the other way, each step seemed like we were walking in wet cement.  As we battled the wind on one of our laps, I thought about how our walk was symbolic of our walk with Christ.  When we are walking with Him, He helps us along the way.  We are going in His direction and He provides us what we need to keep pushing forward.  When we are walking against Him, however, every step seems like it is uphill.  We can trudge along, fighting and straining for each inch of ground covered, but we find that we’re not making much progress and the little bit we do make is absolutely exhausting.  Even though walking against Him is more difficult, we are usually bound and determined to do it anyway!  We keep fighting, even though it would be so much easier to turn around and walk with Him.  And where does that get us?  Tired, frustrated, and not making much ground!  No matter what path you’re walking on right now, I promise you that walking with Him is much easier than walking against Him.  All you have to do is turn around and you will suddenly find that things may seem a whole lot easier than they did before. With Christ walking with you, it doesn’t matter what road you are on…you will find that His strength makes all things possible.

“Then Jesus said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
