Cast Your Burdens on the Lord and Leave Them There

One of my favorite stories I’ve heard Billy Graham tell is about his son.  When his son was a young child, someone gave him a dollar.  The son brought it to his dad and asked him to keep it for him.  Only a few minutes passed before the young boy came back and asked for his dollar back.  He stuffed it down in his pocket and went off to play.  Once again, only a few minutes passed before the young boy came back.  This time, he was heartbroken.  He had lost his dollar out of his pocket.  He begged his dad to help him find it.  We are so like this young boy.  Life gives us so many burdens.  We take them to our heavenly Father and ask Him to take care of them for us, which He would be glad to do.  Not much time passes, however, before we are right back before Him, asking Him for those burdens back.  We decide that we can take care of them ourselves.  And we, like the young boy, find out all too soon that we should’ve left those burdens with our Father.  We find that we actually make things worse than they were to begin with. Once we realize that, we go running back to our Father, begging Him to help us fix things.  We have to learn to lay our burdens at God’s feet and leave them there, allowing Him to take care of them.  He is far more capable than we are to handle anything that comes our way.

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22
