Praise Him Even in the Hallway

Posted on: 7-15-112013

The other day my cousin posted a quote on Facebook that I definitely need to learn to do in my life and maybe you do as well.  It said:

“Until God opens the next door, praise Him in the hallway.”

Often times, I find myself able to praise God when everything is going well (at least by my definition of what “well” is), but when trials hit or I feel like I’m at a standstill waiting on God to move, it’s not quite so easy.  I tend to be very impatient and want God to move according to my time-table.  If I have to spend any time waiting on Him, I can assure you I’m usually not praising Him… I’m usually asking Him what’s taking so long or questioning whether or not I even heard Him correctly to begin with.  I seem to forget that God can teach us just as much, if not more, in the waiting times, than He does when we see Him actively working.  Over and over, in His Word, we are instructed to praise Him all the time.  Now I’m not a Biblical scholar, but I am pretty sure there is no footnote that tells us to praise Him continually unless we are waiting on Him to move forward. Maybe if we praised Him in the “hallway” while we waited for the next door to open, He would open the door more quickly!  At any rate, the time we spent waiting would be time well spent.

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Psalm 150:6
