The Pointing Finger of Blame

Posted on: 7-15-112012

Over the course of the last few weeks as we approached the presidential election and especially over the past couple of days, God has really been speaking to me concerning the leaders of our country.  There has been a lot of debate and controversy over all of the political issues and many are very concerned about the future of our country.  Leaders of the country point fingers at one another or the leaders before them and cast blame for  the problems we are encountering.  We, as citizens, point our fingers at the leaders and blame them for not handling things the way we think it should have been handled.  There is a lot of finger-pointing going on between the “differents” as well…different races, different religions, different beliefs of any sort really.  There is only one person no one seems to want to point a finger at and that is at themselves.  As I have thought about this, God has reminded me that I have not prayed for my country and its leaders over the last four years as I should.  I’ve done some griping and complaining, but I haven’t spent a lot of time on my knees before God seeking Him regarding this.  Then He reminded me that, if I’m not doing what I should be doing, then I’m part of the problem.  I’ll admit that this is not the message I wanted to hear from Him and certainly not one I wanted to accept.  However, I know He’s right.  So, I’ve had to admit to myself and to Him that I have not done what I should have done and I have to change it from this day forward.  I may not agree with all of the decisions the leaders of our country make and I may not even share their beliefs and opinions, but God, in His sovereignty, has placed them in authority over me.  For that reason alone, I owe them my respect.  And in order to honor God, I must honor them by diligently praying for them daily.

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.  Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinances of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.” Romans 13:1 – 2
