Undercover Boss

Posted on: 7-15-112012

My husband and I enjoy watching the TV show “Undercover Boss”.  It’s about a boss of a company going undercover  and working in several of his or her stores, restaurants, etc.  to see what is really going on in day-to-day operations.  Toward the end of the show, the boss invites the four main people who he or she worked with to come to company headquarters.  During the visit, the boss reveals his or her true identity.  The people are always shocked and amazed as the truth sinks into their minds.  Occasionally, the person has behaved in a very negative way on the job and the boss has to set them up on some sort of intervention plan to help them to perform their job in a more effective and positive manner for the company.  Most of the time, however, the boss has discovered really hardworking people who do everything possible to help better the company.  The boss always does something amazing for the hardworking people, such as promote them into a leadership role or put into effect some of their ideas to better the company.  Often, during the time the boss worked undercover, he or she has also discovered the fact that the people that work within the company may do incredible jobs despite overwhelming difficulties and trials within their personal life.  In instances like that, the boss wants to do something to help the person with that situation.  For example, they may give them thousands of dollars for medical bills, college, or to provide transportation, etc. The workers are always overcome with emotion at the generosity of the boss and talk about how this act of kindness will change their life forever.  Tonight, as I watched the show, I wondered what would happen if Jesus went undercover and came into our lives.  What would ?  Would He find us doing the job at hand to the best of our abilities or would He find us slacking off and being lazy?  Would He find us teaching and encouraging those around us or would He find us speaking words that tear down and destroy others?  Would He find us following the standards He has set for us or would He find us following the rules when we know someone else is  watching and doing whatever we wanted when we didn’t think anyone was watching? What would happen if He revealed His true identity to us ? How would we react?  Would He find us glad to see Him or bowing our heads in shame because of our actions?  Would He have to reprimand us for our actions or would He be ready to reward us because of our actions? We may not realize it, but He is a part of every person we encounter.  The way we treat others is actually the way we’re treating Him.  The actions and attitudes we have toward others is the actions and attitudes we have toward Him.  Every deed, whether good or bad, we do for others is just the same as if we are doing it to Him. So the question I’m asking myself right now is how did I treat Jesus today?

“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”  Matthew 25:40

“Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.” Matthew 25:45
