Seeing the Product in the Seed

Posted on: 7-15-112012

Tonight in Bible study we discussed planting and harvesting.  The teacher on the DVD we watched quoted a farmer he once visited and what He said really spoke to me.  The farmer said, “We see the seed in the finished product; only God can see the finished product in the seed.” There are so many times when God calls us to do something that seems to make absolutely no sense whatsoever to us.  We cannot even fathom how God may take the things He’s calling us to do and use them for anything.  We may feel like what He’s calling us to do has no real value in His kingdom.  We may feel what He’s calling us to do is so small and insignificant that it really doesn’t matter if we do it or not.  However, nothing can be farther from the truth.  Everything God does has purpose and fits into His kingdom plan.  He uses every single detail of our lives to weave into the lives of others to advance His work.  The problem we have is our perspective…we only see one part.  God, on the other hand, sees the whole picture.  He alone knows what the final product will look like.  He knows how everything works together to accomplish His purpose.  We have to realize that we’re not responsible for the final outcome…we’re responsible to do what He calls us to do.  Only God can bring forth a harvest…we are just chosen to able to participate in the sowing of the seeds.

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his labor.” 1 Corinthians 3:6-8
