Foolishness with God

Posted on: 7-15-112012

I just learned that one of my closest friends from high school passed away unexpectedly last week.  Sadly we lost touch after high school and I haven’t spoken to him in over 20 years.  Not long ago, we connected on Facebook and I found out that he was a doctor, just like he had dreamed of becoming.  I never doubted for one moment that he would accomplish that dream because he was absolutely brilliant in high school.  And based on his medical accomplishments, that brilliant mind had brought him much success in this life.  However, for all the earthly wisdom that he had, he lacked one thing…and it was the one thing more important than anything else…he did not know the Lord.  In fact, he professed to be an atheist.  It breaks my heart to know that he knew so much, yet so little.  All of the success and accolades he received on earth, as wonderful as they are, can do nothing for him now.  His brilliant mind helped him on earth, but is of no value to him now.  Unfortunately upon his death, he came face to face with the God in which he did not believe…to the One who was truly beyond his brilliant mind…and now it’s too late for him to come to know Him.  Of course, my hope is that in his last days, he came to know Christ, but if he didn’t, his eternity has been sealed…he will spend it in hell, along with a lot of other people who, for all of their worldly wisdom, missed the simplicity of Christianity.

“Let no one deceive himself.  If anyone is among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.  For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.” 1 Corinthians 3:18-19
