“Your Word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against You.” Psalm 119:11

Several years ago, a friend and I took a group of young teenage girls to  Girls’ Weekend Retreat hosted by Sage Ministries. This is a ministry dedicated to young girls that focuses on purity. I learned a lot about teenage girls and the things they are faced with everyday in respect to remaining pure before God, but one of the things that has stuck with me the most had nothing to do specifically with teenagers, girls, or purity. One of the speakers told a story about a time in her teenagelife when her Christianity had been put on the spot. She had been inviting another girl on her soccer team for several weeks. The other girl told her that she didn’t want anything to do with Christianity. The answer was the same week after week. Finally, the girl said she would go on one condition…but if the Christian couldn’t meet the condition, she would never ask her about God or church again. The condition was that the young Christian would quote 15 Bible verses frmemeooryemory right there on the spot. The young girl started off pretty strong, but only quoted a couple of verses from memory before she realized that she was in trouble. Sadly, she finally confessed that she couldn’t do it. The other girl told her that she didn’t understand how something that was supposed to mean so much to her was not even worthy of putting to memory. Then, she walked away, leaving the girl crushed. She decided right then and there to memorize as much of God’s Word as possible. This was very eye-opening to me! I wondered what I would do if put up that challenge! I had to ask myself how much value I put on learning God’s Word and putting it to memory. What about you? Could you quote 15 verses? 20? 50? 100?
