Healer of My Scars

Posted on: 7-15-112012

Recently, I heard something on the radio that really spoke to me.  The speaker said that when we focus on our scars, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, we tend to focus on the situation that caused the scar.  We think of all of the pain and hurt that we had because of the scar.  He said that we should, instead, look at our scars and see them as a sign of victory! He said that a scar represents what we have gone through to get to a place of healing…the key here being that we have healed!  We did not surrender to the battle, we did not give up, we did not lose!  We may have ensued in a ferocious battle, but we survived to tell our story. In the song I posted yesterday, there is a phrase that I absolutely love…it refers to God as the “healer of our scars.” So, another thing we can think of when we look at our scars is that fact that we were not alone in our fight…God was there all along, helping us and healing us!  And not only can He heal us, He can use our scars to do so many things if we let Him.  He can use them to grow us closer to Him, to teach us things about Him that we would never know without the scars, to teach us about things about ourselves, to change us and shape us into His image, to teach us about other people and perhaps give us a more compassionate and understanding heart towards others, and He can use our scars to help us help others who may be walking a similar road to the one we’ve been on.  Sometimes we think that it’s unfair that God would even allow us to walk on any path that brings us pain and hurt, but God never allows anything that is not for our good.  He can and will use every single detail of our lives to transform us into the people He created us to be. We can trust Him to walk with us every step of our lives, whether we’re on the path lined with sunshine and rainbows or on the path lined with the ominous clouds and brooding danger.  God does not abandon us when the going gets tough!  In fact, this is the time when He draws nearer to us and often carries us, if we let Him!  And we can also trust that, at the end of those rocky roads, we will find that He has strengthened us and enabled us to survive…and not only survive, but to be healed!

“But to you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves. You shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I do this,’ says the Lord.” Malachi 4:2-3
