Whose Team Are You On?

Posted on: 7-15-112012

Tonight many eyes are watching the National Championship Football game between LSU and Alabama.  It seems like that this is all anyone was talking about today.  As I watched footage of all of the tailgating parties and celebrations down in New Orleans today, I was amazed by the number of people who were there to support their team.  One thing is for sure…LSU fans are LSU fans…there is no denying it; the same is true for the Alabama fans…they are faithful to their team as well.  Everywhere I went, I heard people talking “smack” to fans of the opposing team.  Even in my very own home, there is some division!  My husband, oldest daughter, and son are all rooting for Alabama to win, while my younger daughter is wearing purple and gold to support LSU!  As I was thinking about the rivalry among the fans for this game, I was reminded that there will come a day when we are divided over something far more important than football.   One day, the Lord will divide us according to our relationship with Him.

“All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.  And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.  Then the King will say to those on the right hand, ‘Come, you blessed  of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” Matthew 25:32-34

“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”  Matthew 25:41

Tonight, either LSU or Alabama will be victorious which means the other team will be defeated.  Some fans will go home excited, pumped up, and on top of the world; the fans of the other team, however, will go home sad, upset, and feeling the defeat just as much as the team.  These feelings may carry over for the next few days, but eventually, life will go on!  The emotions won’t last forever.  The division described here in God’s Word, however, is final. The division is clear: to the ones on the right, eternal life in heaven; to those on the left, eternal life in hell.  Sadly, once divided, there will be no switching sides!  There will be no deciding you wanted to be on the other team.  It will be too late!  In fact, right now, you’re already on a team!  If you have surrendered your life to Christ, you’re on His team…the team that will be on His right hand; if you haven’t surrendered your life to Christ, you’re on Satan’s team…the team that will be on His left hand.  If you’re on Satan’s team, now is the time to switch sides, while you still can!  Don’t wait until it’s too late! The good news about Christ’s team…He accepts anyone onto His team!  He doesn’t care about your weaknesses, your level of talent, your ,abilities or inabilites, your injuries, your past, your present, or your future…if you want to be on His team, all you have to do is ask Him!  He desires nothing more than for you to be on His team!  And unlike the game that’s being played tonight between LSU and Alabama, if you’re on Christ’s team, you already know the outcome of your game…you win!
