Get Off the Fence

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot.  I could wish you were cold or hot.  So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”  Revelation 3:15 – 16

God is very clear about how He feels about those that are neither hot nor cold, but instead, are lukewarm.  These are the people who sit on the fence, wavering between living a life completely sold out for Christ and a life that gives Him no place at all.     Two things really grab my attention in His Words.  First, the fact that He says He would rather us be cold (giving Him no place at all) than lukewarm.  We, as humans, sometimes settle for the half-hearted attempts of others or of ourselves.  God is not a “settler”…He does not accept half-hearted!  He wants ALL or NOTHING!  He is clear…you cannot live both for Him and for yourself. He wants our whole heart because He knows that only when we are 100% sold out to Him will our life be truly blessed and worthwhile.  The second thing that jumps out at me is that He says He will vomit the lukewarm out of His mouth!  To me, that’s a very blatant picture of how sickening the lukewarm are to God. How disgusting does something have to be for you to want to vomit it out? What does that say about how disgusting those on the fence are to God? Where are you right now?  Do you have both of your feet firmly planted on the “hot” side, living a life that is completely committed to Him? Do you have both of your feet firmly planted on the “cold” side, living a life that gives Him no place at all? Or are you one of the ones that has a foot planted on each side of the fence, wavering back and forth between a life for Him and a life that gives Him no place at all?
