Hearing His Voice

Posted on: 7-15-112011

Have you ever wondered what Moses thought when he encountered the bush that was burning, but never burned?  I mean, a burning bush that does not burn up is not a common site.  In fact, it defies everything that we (as well as Moses) understand about fire.  Moses had to be curious, but also very leery about getting too close to it.  I wonder if he thought about turning around and running in the opposite direction.  I wonder what he would’ve done if he hadn’t been in the desert and would have had a supply of water nearby…would he have tried to put out the fire?  Well, we can’t be exactly sure this side of heaven what Moses thought, but what we do know if that he approached the burning bush.  And in doing so, he was able to hear the very voice of God speak to him from within the bush.  I don’t have to wonder too much about that…I’m almost positive Moses was not expecting that!  The same is true in our lives today…God often speaks to us in the places and things in which we least expect.  His voice may never come to us in a burning bush, but He does speak to us.  The question is, “Do we listen?”

“So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, ‘Moses, Moses!” Exodus 3:4
