Teach With All Your Heart

Posted on: 7-15-112011

Tomorrow many of my friends that work in the education field will start a brand new school year.  I remember very well the realm of emotions that teachers go through on this last week of summer.  It is usually very bittersweet…sad because summer is ending and it’s time to get back to the real world, but it’s also very exciting! A brand new school year has so much promise…you have so many plans and so much hope for your new students.  Your mind races with a multitude of questions…what will my students be like this year, have I forgotten anything, etc.  It can all be very overwhelming and exhausting!  But, I want to encourage you, in the midst of all of the chaos, remember that you have been called to one of the highest callings ever!  You have been chosen to make an impact on the lives of your students.  You have the privilege of being able to help shape their lives…for both this school year and forever.  Every action that you take in that classroom makes a difference.  They are watching and learning from you every moment of every single day.  So, I want to encourage you to teach with all of your heart all day every day!  Even when you get tired, don’t slack off!  Even when they’re not behaving and you’re on the verge of losing your mind, hold on just a little longer!  For, even though you cannot just out-and-out teach them about Jesus, you can be a living example of Him each day in class!  When it gets tough, remind yourself that you may be the only Jesus that your students ever see!  When you’re tempted to lose your temper and really give it to them good, remember that Jesus treats you with an abundance of grace and mercy, so that’s what you need to give them.  When they make mistakes, be quick to forgive!  When they are at their most unlovable moments,  make sure that you love them unconditionally!  When you act as Jesus would act, you’re teaching them about Him without even mentioning His name.  And there is NOTHING greater that you could teach them than that!

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.  And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”  Deuteronomy 6:4 – 9
