If You Dish It Out, Be Prepared to Take It

Today one of the members of Casting Crowns was interviewed on the radio. He made a statement that has stayed with me all day. He said,”We need to look at other people through the same set of glasses with which we want God to look at us.” I think we can all agree that this is the right thing to do, but I think we can also agree that it is not what we normally do! We often are very quick to judge other people for their actions and offer no compassion or understanding for those actions, but when it comes to our own actions, we expect other people, as well as God, to extend grace and mercy to us. I often times find myself wondering why people can’t just listen and do what they’re supposed to do, only to hear God asking me the very same thing. God is very clear in His Word…in whatever way we judge others, we are going to be judged. Scary, isn’t it? I think if we really grasped that truth, we would definitely be more compassionate and gentle in our judgments of other people.

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” Matthew 7:1-2
