The Apple of His Eye

Posted on: 7-15-112011

Today, my son was accused of something that I knew was so out of his character that it couldn’t possibly be true.   Every cell in my body went into “protect and defend” mode.  The range of emotions I felt ranged from intense anger at the person who had lied about him to great sadness that my son may be hurt by what was said.  I could not fix this problem fast enough! Now, don’t get me wrong…I am completely aware that he has his faults, that he makes mistakes, and that he is in no way perfect.  However, none of that mattered to me at the time.  All I wanted to do was run to his rescue and fight the battle for him.  As I thought about the whole incident later, I was in awe of our Father…the One who is our Defender and Protector.  Even though He knows we’re not perfect, He is the first one in line to fight our battles for us and to take care of our enemies.  Whether our enemy is another person or Satan himself, God can and will defend us.  He will not tolerate His children being falsely accused or harassed.  He will not stand idly by and let someone harm us.  There are two verses I want to share that show how important we are to God and how He protects us.  They both refer to us as the “apple of His eye”. The apple of the eye is considered the pupil.  We know that anytime something come toward our eye, our natural instinct is to blink or close our eye.  That’s our way of defending our eye.  In the same way, when God refers to us as “the apple of His eye”, He’s telling us that anything harmful that comes toward us will have to get through Him to get us. And we can be 100% positive that whatever it is, it is never going to get by Him.

“He found them in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.” Deuteronomy 32:10

“For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘He sent Me after glory to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.” Zechariah 2:8
